Author and adventurer Geoff Hill set off last week on his latest big bike adventure with fellow writer Colin O'Carroll. The pair will circumnavigate Australia on Tiger 1050s, taking 10-12 weeks to cover the 15,000 miles of the legendary Highway One before the road is decommissioned in 2010.
With them will be film makers Matt Curry and Gareth McGrillan who will be producing a TV series, which BBC and Channel 4 are already interested in.
Geoff, who's already ridden from Delhi to Belfast and Chile to Alaska for the best-selling books Way to Go and The Road to Gobblers Knob, is facing his mightiest challenge yet: the wombats of Oz. The trip will result in a new book to be published by Blackstaff Press in October 2010, provisionally titled Oz: Geoff and Colin's outrageous Australian adventure.
Two bikers conquer the longest national highway in the world! They’ve done it! Their mammoth journey took 12 weeks to complete and finished with a triumphant home-coming celebration at the offices of sponsor, Adelaide Insurance Services. Led by Adelaide’s Sam Geddis, and flanked by a police escort, our dynamic duo made their way to Boucher Plaza to the sounds of “Waltzing Matilda” courtesy of a live band. They were greeted by the press, friends and supporters alike. Geoff Hill and Colin O’Carroll’s adventure had finished but their stories of Australia had only just begun.
Yes the stories had just begun. Stories we will have to wait for and read in October. Stories in a book that'll be well worth reading, if you've read anything by Geoff Hill before you'll agree. The book should be available to buy at the 'BooksNI' bookshop then.
